1) Quick explanation

Active voice focuses on who does the action. subject + base verb(s)

Passive voice focuses on the receiver of the action. In the present simple, use am / is / are + past participle (V3).

  • Affirmative: Object + am/is/are + V3 (+ by + agent)
  • Negative: Object + am/is/are not + V3
  • Interrogative: Am/Is/Are + object + V3 (+ by + agent)?

2) Examples

Active: The teacher teaches Mathematics.

Passive: Mathematics is taught (by the teacher).

Active (negative): They do not take tea.

Passive: Tea is not taken.

Active (question): Do they use computer?

Passive: Is computer used (by them)?
