Each other vs one another || Easily learn- English Grammar

Each other and one other are one of the types of pronouns, i.e., reciprocal pronoun. Both terms are extensively used in the sentences. But sometimes, they confuse the learners as both words appear to be the same in meaning. So, in this article, we will discuss key differences between each other, when to use each other, and when to one another.

◘ EACH OTHER: basically, each other is used merely for two persons. When there are two persons, then we will choose each other, not one another. Let’s take some examples.

Examples:

◘ Mahaveer and Jivka used to talk with each other. (In this example, we are talking about two, i.e., Mahaveer and Jivka; thus, we will use each other).

◘ Manhoor and Asma are good sisters. They both respect each other.

◘ Naeem and Hameer help each other during the preparation of exams.

NOTE: If you start your sentence with “they,” then use each other.

◘ ONE ANOTHER: whereas, one another is used for more than two persons. Look at the following examples:

Examples:

◘ Madhu, Shaista, and Amna are best friends and respect one another.

◘ Muslims greet Eid Mubarak to one another.

◘ Hindus throw a variety of colors at one another on the eve of  Holi.
